Annunciation 20149
2009, ink and acrylic on washi; 14.5 x 54 inches
What constitutes freedom, how does it look?
Like diving—
plunging into the amorous wet
like choosing,
not between right wrong, either or, the poles, rather
like holding
what is useful in both hands
like convergence—
the space in between
contradiction.
This is The Annunciation.
To be mortal and divine,
alone yet combined—
self and other
you face it—your choice
your annunciation. Even now
and now, and now;
to live with ecstasy
to die with suffering
both at once—
for loss is contained within satisfied desire.
And Desire is eternal, unrelenting.
Everywhere I look
I see you in me.
